The information on this page is presented here as a template to assist you in creating a jail ministry and mentroring program in your own community. You have permission edit these files using the information therein to discribe your specific ministry.
You may want to incorporate your ministry and apply for a 501c3 tax exemption, but don't let that forestall your startup investigation. You will need to appeal to your church community for volunteers and financial support. HCCJM has been supported by individual and church contributions since its inception in 1992. Our expenditures have been for printed materials including Bibles, Overcomers manuals, and Free at Last books. We also allow for helping support inmates upon entry to recovery programs and chaplain expenditures.
Your first order of business is to make contact with your correctional institution. Hopefully, they will have a chaplain or individual responsible for program administration such as AA, NA, and GED. This person or group will be the interface with your ministry. They will select the individuals they deem acceptable for program participation. The mentoring program and training is described in the files below.
